Dear Jackman ICS Parents,
On behalf of the teachers and staff, I am sending you warm wishes for the March break holiday. We hope you will have special family times and we look forward to hearing the children’s stories when we return to school on Monday, March 26. See you then!

Book Night
Thank you for joining us on Wednesday for an evening celebrating literacy in support of the JICS Library program. Special thanks to Krista and the parent/teacher volunteers who organized this wonderful family-friendly community event, filled with mesmerizing stories and beautiful singing. It was a perfect opportunity to get together and be in our beautiful new J. Fraser Mustard Assembly Hall/Gymnasium and to purchase books for the avid and aspiring JICS readers during March Break!
The Grade 1 class counted the money from the “lucky draw” and the total was $824.35! Our portion of the book sales was $1121.17 – creating a grand total of $1,945.52 for our library program. We are looking forward to adding the Read-A-Thon donations which are due April 6.
We were proud to see so many JICS parents purchasing a copy of the JICS created resource “Natural Curiosity 2nd Edition: A Resource for Educators”. As you know, this book had its launch on March 1 (https://www.jicsfamily.com/single-post/2018/02/21/What-is-Natural-Curiosity-anyway-Read-here-to-find-out-what-its-all-about-and-why-you-might-like-to-come-to-the-launch-of-our-amazing-new-educational-resource-on-March-1st) and explains the importance of Indigenous perspectives in children’s environmental teaching. We highly recommend this resource to all JICS parents so that we can work in partnership, using a shared-approach to learning with your children. If you would like to purchase a copy, here is a link: http://www.naturalcuriosity.ca/aboutus.php?m=b
Storyteller, Dan Yashinsky mentioned the 2018 Toronto Storytelling Festival March 19 – 25: www.torontostorytellingfestival.ca
April 26 - Extra Special Parent Education Opportunity!
Thank you to the JICS Parents’ Association and the JICS Parent Ed Committee for organizing the parent-focused seminar on April 26 entitled “Collaborative and Proactive Solutions for Parents” with guest speaker, Dr. Ross W. Greene. Dr. Greene is an esteemed psychologist, a bestselling author and he is in high demand as public speaker. Many JICS teachers were impressed with his presentation the last time he was in Toronto and we are all eager to attend his talk at JICS. Booking Dr. Greene is quite the accomplishment for the JICS PA and Parent Ed Committee and we thank you. How perfect to have such an important presenter be the inaugural Parent Ed speaker in our new and beautiful “J. Fraser Mustard Assembly Hall” (JICS auditorium/gymnasium)! We are receiving many requests from friends outside JICS to attend the evening but we want to ensure all JICS parents have a change to register before we open it up to others.
