1. Lunar New Year
At New Year and always, may peace and love fill your heart, beauty fill your world, and contentment and joy fill your days. At JICS, we look forward to celebrating this special time of year next week. Thank you to the parents who have volunteered.
2. Kiss and Ride – Ticketing
JICS drop-off and pick-up still unfortunately has vehicles blocking the driveways of neighbours. The Toronto Police were here today to let us know that they will be ticketing offenders.
3. Skating Time!
During the winter term, students in SK to Grade 6 have an opportunity to go skating at Bill Bolton Arena, 50 Rossmore Road. The SKs have taken the lead with weekly skating trips to Bill Bolton Arena each Tuesday morning. (Carol was delighted at the big parent turn-out!)
Grades 1, 2, 3 will skate Friday, February 7 and 21, 9:00-10:00am
Grades 4, 5, 6 will skate Friday, February 7 and 21, 1:00-2:00pm
Parent participation on and off the ice is highly encouraged! All children must wear helmets.
If your child needs skates or if you have skates to donate, please email Chriss Bogert and we will try to arrange a skate swap. Classroom teachers will provide more detail about these trips

Dear Parents
Happy (Belated) New Year to all JICS families! The Parents' Association hopes everyone had a wonderful winter break, and we look forward to seeing you throughout 2020!
Join us at the next PA meeting and Parent Ed Event: Feb. 11
It may be frosty outside, but it's warm inside. Come join us for our first PA meeting of 2020, Tuesday, February 11, from 6 pm to 8 pm. Please share your ideas with us and hear updates from Principal Richard Messina, your PA and Class Reps. The PA meeting will be followed by a JICS Research Night focusing on the “Knoweldge Buiding” pedagogy used in every JICS classroom.
Patrick Harvie Arts Fundraiser
We're raising funds for arts programming for the JICS Students with a fun night, dancing it up old school with a 90s theme.
What does your $70 ticket include? Entrance to the dance party of the year + $35 tax receipt!
Snacks will be provided + open bar.
Our very own David Osorio will be onsite serving a special house drink.

Raffle tickets - win 1 of 2 spots to Nearly Midnight Madness or tickets to a Raptors game!
Carol and Richard have agreed to host another “Nearly Midnight Madness Event” in the Spring, but you have to show up to the dance to sign up and spots are limited (max 25 spots) $100 each. Get to the party early to get on the list.

Black History Month and Lunar New Year
Reminder for families who would like to help us celebrate Black History Month and/or Lunar New Year with your children’s class(es), the PA will reimburse up to $50 per classroom. Keep your receipts and click here for reimbursement. If you would like to coordinate a school-wide event, please contact Richard directly.

5. Nursery Applicants
This morning we hosted an Open House for families close to the top of our application list. Parents had an opportunity to learn about the school’s pedagogy and public-school mission from faculty members and benefitted from a tour. Many identified that they knew about the school from current JICS parents and we want to thank you for being promoters and ambassadors of the Lab School!
6. Outdoor Play & Winter Weather
We do not let rain or snow get in the way of important outdoor play. Please send your child/ren with outdoor clothing and footwear appropriate to weather conditions. Also ensure that they have dry indoor shoes to wear inside the school.
