2. Message from JICS PA
Dear JICS Families
Brrrrrrr - It’s cold outside! How to keep warm??? JICS toques and hoodies! Find these and more at the jicsfamily.com/shop. Get yours while we still have inventory!
We have also re-introduced the Fundscrip program, available at jicsfamily.com/shopandsupport. Here, you can buy gift cards from hundreds of stores (grocery, gas, apparel and more) and a portion of each purchase will be donated to the JICS PA to support the sports and outdoor equipment our children are playing with this year. Please consider this option if you are purchasing gift cards this holiday season.
We thank you very much for your support!
Warm regards,
Your Parents’ Association Executives
3. How to Know if the School is Open in Inclement Weather
Should you be concerned about adverse weather conditions and/or school closure, information can be found on the UofT Snow Line at 416-978-7669 (978-SNOW) https://www.utoronto.ca/campus-status or on the JICSfamily website Twitter section. The Lab School remains open if the University is open.
4. Outdoor Clothing
Children play outside in all weather at JICS (including light rain, snowy days, and cold conditions). Please send your child with outdoor clothing appropriate to weather conditions.
“There is no inappropriate weather, only inappropriate clothing!”
5. Supporting the JICS Library
We know that our students love to read and that books are cherished at JICS. Books can make us laugh, make us sad, and build our knowledge of the world. We believe it is essential for our students to have access to high quality and diverse books. We are always on the hunt for new ones that explore topics that are important learning and we want to be certain that our curated collection represents a wide variety of perspectives and experiences, allowing all children to know they are valued and represented. Along with new additions, favourite books need to be replaced because they have been so loved.
The Jackman ICS Library runs an ongoing fundraiser through Indigo. When you purchase gift cards through this link, 20% of your purchase amount is given to JICS to spend on books! The gift card arrives in your email, and then online or in-person purchases can be made from Indigo.
Please consider using the link when you are purchasing for family, colleagues, or loved ones.
6. Parent Education - Thanks and Hold the Date
Thank you to JICS parents, Allison, Shawna, Ian, and Lisa for sharing your COVID-19 expertise on Nov 19 on the JICS Parent Panel. Thanks to Casey for organizing and moderating the very informative event.
Thank you, Ellie, JICS Social Worker, for hosting “Sibling Strategies – peaceful ways to handle conflict”, the 2nd presentation in the JICS Lab School Parenting Series.
Hold the Date Tuesday, December 15th 12:30-1:30 for the next event in Ellie’s parenting series: “Parenting in the Digital Age: Supporting your relationship with your kids and their tech”.
7. Staff Lunches
Thank you to the PA for yesterday’s “teachers and staff appreciation lunch” and thank you to the JICS families who have provided lunches and treats this term!
8. Celebrating Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa - Festivals of Light
